ooohhh wat mooi!! Je hebt een tutorial? Serieus?

How on Earth do you begin to support something so massive when you're putting on those delicate towers?

Before you put on the towers, you make sure the ball is steady. I glue 3 wooden balls under the styrofoam ball and cover them with clay. Once that's dry, the ball is steady enough to put on the towers. Quite easy actually :-) Besides the ball might be large, but it's very light. It's a hollow styrofoam ball covered with only a thin layer of paperclay.

But, if you make a hanging lamp you have to do things differently. I use a bucket or bowl which is slightly smaller than the ball, and steady it on that.

Oh wow. I always thought the problem with the foam was the heat because it's flamable. Have you ever had problems with it before?

Well, you need to use Led lights, they do not heat up. Other lighting might indeed melt the styrofoam. I used it as a base once with the polymer clay and it actually totally disappeared in the oven.

eugh. That sounds worrying o3o; I'm already hyper cautious about what I use for padding if a figure or piece needs it. Otherwise I'm worried the expansion and contraction of being baked with annihilate it. I used to be a big horror fan and made a few figures in support of a horror game. The most memorable disaster. My figurine's prop kept falling off or his hand would break or he'd fall over mid-bake. Just a nightmare, lol.

I hate when that happens! Especially the falling over part and you find one flat side when you get your piece, which you've worked so hard on, out of the oven. I have been working on a doll recently, but in the initial stage the neck broke and I couldn't fix it again. Tried several times, but it kept breaking and having curious kids around didn't really help... so I just gave up on that one.

Aw. If you ever get into it again let me know. I would love, love, love to see you make a doll. I've dreamt of trying to attempt a posable one. There's a half-plush posable tutorial I found a while back you might find interesting. www.dollmakersdream.com/free-p…
